Post-Frame.
Post-frame construction is a specialized type of framing built from laminated columns (posts) secured to concrete footings set below the frost line. The posts are 2x6’s that are laminated together to form a column as opposed to a traditional 6x6 beam. Laminated columns provide greater strength and dimensional accuracy as compared to 6x6 beams, which are prone to warping and twisting. Pre-manufactured trusses are then installed on top of these columns to create the roof structure of the building. Due to this unique design, post-frame does not have any interior load-bearing walls, allowing for large, open-concept floorplans.
Stick-Frame.
Stick-frame construction is the traditional method of framing for residential construction. Stick-frame walls use 2x4’s or 2x6’s spaced 16” or 24” on-center which are fastened to a poured foundation. Pre-manufactured trusses or hand-cut rafters are then installed on top of stick-framed walls to create the roof structure of the building.
Foundational Differences Between Post-Frame and Stick-Frame Construction.
Stick-framing requires a full foundational wall that extends below the frost line. Post-frame uses concrete piers to support the weight of the structure. Foundations for stick-frame buildings can cost up to 15% of the total project, which is money that can be saved or re-invested elsewhere. Post-Frame’s unique design delivers tremendous value and savings for customers without sacrificing the layout or building design.
Decks.
We are happy to replace or add a deck to help maximize your outdoor living space. We understand decks are a large investment and should be built to last for decades. All of our decks are installed 12” on center for maximum structural rigidity and all of our joists are taped with flashing to help reduce rot and extend the life of your deck. Some carpenters will cut costs in these areas; however, we feel it’s cheap insurance to maximize the lifespan of your investment.
Pergolas.
Pergolas are a great feature to design your outdoor living space around. Pergolas provide additional shade and are a great accent piece to hang outdoor lighting for entertaining guests at night. We offer pergolas in either traditional pine, pressure-treated pine, or cedar depending upon the design, goals, and budget for your project. All our pergolas are fastened to footers that extend below the frost line to ensure your project is structurally safe and will last for years to come.
Pavilions.
While pergolas are great for adding shade on hot sunny days, pavilions are a great option if you are looking to entertain and need protection from the rain and elements. Because pavilions are covered, this gives you the flexibility to add recessed lighting, outdoor fans, and/or a television for outdoor entertainment.
